ALPHA QLD 4724
Alpha is a small rural township located in Central Western Queensland, in the Barcaldine Regional Council. Alpha is located 168km west of Emerald and 139km east of Barcaldine. Alpha is the 'Gateway to the West' and known as one of the richest cattle grazing areas in Queensland.
Alpha Show Society Inc
Alpha Show Society held their first show in 1965 and were originally part of the western QLD show circuit. In July 1966 Alpha Show Society applied to join the Central Highlands Show circuit and were accepted. Alpha Show then became the first show on the Central Highlands Show run. In 1990 the Alpha Show was not held due to floods and in 2003 and 2019 the show did not go ahead due to drought. In 2020 the Alpha Show was not held due to COVID-19 pandemic.
In 1985 the Alpha Show Society participated in the Alpha Centenary Celebrations, with the show committee participating in 100 year festivities.
On the 3rd September 1990 the Alpha Show Society became incorporated and in 1991 the Alpha Show held it's silver jubilee show to celebrate 25 years of showing. In 2015 the Alpha Show celebrated 50 years and the show was opened by the Governor of Queensland the Hon. Paul de Jersey.
Over the years the show has continued to grow with a change in days from the weekend to weekdays to avoid a clash with Biloela and Charleville Shows.The Alpha Show is now held in mid May each year.
